During the eve of big day Edul Fitri or Adha most children in villages like to play fire crackers or fireworks, but not for myself and friends, we prefered firing cannon!. Again.... its DIY cannon. The cannon made of bamboo about 2ft to 4ft long. The outer surface of the bamboo was strengthen around by wrapping a wire at intervals. The inner shafts were bored through leaving only the bottom untouched. About 5 inches from the bamboo bottom a small hole 0.5 inch in diameter was created. This spot was where to ignite the cannon. The ammo stuff includes carbide and water, while the kerosene lamp used for the burner. The bamboo cannon securely laid on cross stick as its base and slightly slanted aimed to the sky.
The carbide and water were drenched using small cloth in the ignition spot, then ready its to be lighted up the cannon using a stick splinter. Once ingnited the cannon produces very loud noise like hand granite easily drowning the sound of crackers. Village to village the sound of cannons spectacularly fill and enlighten the joyous big day nite.
Aha...the thrill were simply being naughty, this DIY is not to be imitated and its illegal now.
